Behind-the-ear (BTE)

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

For those needing lots of power, a behind-the-ear hearing aid is one of the best, plus it’s designed to fit most ears.

Most of the hearing aid sits on top of the ear, connected to a tube with a small tip or earmold that sits in the ear canal.

Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC)

Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC)

Similar to behind-the-ear devices, the RIC device rests behind the ear, but is typically smaller and less visible than a BTE. For this reason, this style of hearing aid may be preferred for some.

The speaker of the hearing aid rests in the ear canal, but the microphone and processor sit in a tiny case behind the ear. They are connected by a thin wire.

In-the-ear (ITE)

In-the-ear (ITE)

For those looking for a slightly more discreet look, ITE devices are customized to fit inside your outer ear. The hardware sits inside a hard plastic case. Certain features can be installed to help hear better in conversations and public places.

In-the-canal (ITC)

In-the-canal (ITC)

ITC hearing aids are custom molded to sit in the ear canal and lower portion of the outer ear bowl. Their size allows them to host additional features such as directional microphones for better understanding in noisy environments.

Degree of Hearing Loss: Mild to Moderate

Completely-in-canal (CIC)

Completely-in-canal (CIC)

Nearly hidden in your ear, CIC hearing aids are custom molded to fit in the ear canal. Because of their small size, CIC hearing aids may be slightly more difficult to adjust and remove, not ideal for children and older adults with dexterity issues.
